The polar bear is a rare visitor to Iceland, occasionally drifting here on
sea ice from Greenland. It is the world’s largest land predator. Polar bears
mainly feed on seals.
Visits to Iceland are infrequent and unpredictable. The polar bear is a
symbol of the Arctic and extreme conditions. It is not considered part of
Iceland’s permanent fauna.
