The mallard is a common and widespread duck in Iceland. It occurs on lakes, rivers, ponds, coasts and in urban areas and is one of the country's most familiar ducks.
Mallards are omnivorous and feed on plants, seeds and a variety of small animals. Part of the population remains in Iceland throughout the year.
