The tufted duck is a medium-sized diving duck that breeds on lakes across Iceland. The male is black and white with a distinctive tuft at the back of its head.
Tufted ducks dive for aquatic insects, molluscs and other invertebrates. Lake Mývatn is an especially important breeding area for the species.
