The northern shoveler is easily recognized by its broad, shovel-shaped bill.
It prefers wetlands, ponds, and shallow waters. The species is relatively
uncommon in Iceland.
Its diet consists of small aquatic organisms filtered from the water. It
breeds mainly outside Iceland. The northern shoveler is a distinctive
migratory visitor.
