The gadwall is a medium-sized dabbling duck that breeds in Iceland, particularly around Lake Mývatn. Its plumage is relatively subtle, although the male shows a black rear and a conspicuous white wing patch.
Gadwalls feed largely on aquatic vegetation and favour shallow lakes and wetlands.
