The horned grebe is a small grebe that breeds on shallow, vegetated lakes in Iceland. In breeding plumage it is distinctive, with a dark head and conspicuous golden-orange feather tufts behind the eyes.
It feeds on aquatic insects, small fish and other aquatic animals and builds a floating nest from vegetation.
