About Greater Scaup

The greater scaup is a medium-sized diving duck that breeds in Iceland, particularly on productive lakes. Lake Mývatn is one of its most important breeding areas in the country.

Greater scaup dive for aquatic insects, molluscs and other invertebrates. Most of the Icelandic population is migratory, although some birds remain through winter.
