The oystercatcher is a large and striking wader commonly found in Iceland
during summer. It is easily recognized by its black-and-white plumage and
long red bill. The species inhabits coastlines, grasslands, and wetlands.
Its diet consists of shellfish, worms, and insects. Oystercatchers nest on
the ground in open areas. They are one of the most iconic summer birds in
Iceland.
