About Eurasian Whimbrel

The Eurasian whimbrel is a large wader and a common breeding bird in Iceland. It is easily recognised by its long curved bill and distinctive whistling call. Whimbrels are commonly found in grasslands, wetlands and heathlands.

They feed mainly on insects, worms and other invertebrates. Icelandic whimbrels are migratory and spend the winter in West Africa.
