The thick-billed murre is an auk closely related to the common guillemot but has a more northerly distribution. It breeds in dense colonies on sea cliffs and is an excellent diver.
It feeds mainly on fish and other marine organisms captured underwater. Like other auks, it uses its wings to propel itself while diving.
