The Atlantic puffin is one of Iceland’s most iconic birds and a strong symbol
of the country’s wildlife. It is easily recognized by its colorful bill
during the breeding season. Puffins nest in burrows on grassy slopes and
islands.
Their diet mainly consists of small fish carried crosswise in the bill to
their chicks. Puffins are excellent divers, using their wings to swim
underwater. They spend most of the year far out at sea.
