The common guillemot is one of the most abundant seabirds in Iceland and breeds
in dense cliff colonies across the country. It has black-and-white plumage and
resembles the razorbill, though it is slimmer in shape. Outside the breeding
season, it spends most of its time at sea.
Its diet mainly consists of small fish caught by diving. Common guillemots lay
their eggs directly on bare cliff ledges without building nests. They are a
key component of Iceland’s seabird populations.
