The black-legged kittiwake is a common seabird in Iceland and breeds in large
cliff colonies along the coast. It is easily recognized by its white body
and dark wing tips and is often seen far offshore. Kittiwakes are highly
social birds.
Their diet mainly consists of fish caught by diving to the sea surface.
They are agile fliers and well adapted to harsh marine conditions. The
kittiwake plays an important role in Iceland’s seabird colonies.
