The cross spider is a common spider in Iceland, easily recognized by the
cross-shaped marking on its back. It builds large, well-structured webs in
gardens, shrubs, and near buildings. Cross spiders are generally calm and
remain in the same web for long periods.
Their diet consists of flies and other small insects caught in the web. They
play an important role in controlling insect populations. Cross spiders are
most commonly seen during summer.
